Opening of Religious Education

23 August 2014

The large English-speaking Catholic community in Phnom Penh has a religious education program to assist Catholic parents in passing on their faith to their children. Today the new year of the religious education had its opening ceremony and first class at the Maryknoll office.

Students registering before the class
The religious education classes are held at the Maryknoll office in Phnom Penh where four downstairs rooms become classrooms. Here the newly arriving students sign in for today.
The blessing of the students
This year's class continued the growth in the number of students that has been experienced the past few years. And several new adult and teenage teachers and assistants joined the teaching staff this year. Fr. Charlie led a blessing ceremony for the students, parents, and teachers.
The opening ceremony
The religious education program is centered to a large part on sacraments. Because of the mobile nature of our Catholic foreigner population, many of the children have missed communion and confirmation classes, even baptism, in the past, and so every year we have classes that will enable students to receive the sacraments appropriate for their age.
